SCM Group North America and John Henderson and Co. Donate Bookcases to Opportunity Village SCM Group North America and John Henderson and Co. donated bookcases built during the 2011 AWFS Fair to Opportunity Village, a not-for-profit organization located in Las Vegas. "To effectively demonstrate our equipment to the industry, we need to do more than just cut wood. We need to show a process and make a product," said John Park, Vice President of Industrial Sales for SCM Group North America. "We decided to produce a bookcase in a flexible and lean manufacturing cell. SCM Group built a variety of different size bookcases which allowed us to showcase our equipment instead of just cutting panels and throwing them away at the end of the show." John Henderson, President of John Henderson and Co., is an SCM distributor and local resident of Las Vegas. He organized the program with Opportunity Village. Opportunity Village is a not-for-profit organization that serves people with intellectual disabilities. They provide them with vocational training, employment and social recreation services that make their lives more productive and interesting. Through their programs and services, well over a thousand people with disabilities are learning vocational skills, working in jobs throughout the community, paying taxes and living more fulfilling lives.
